Memorial Day Trifle

There is nothing better than a super easy dessert recipe when you are making food for a crowd! This Memorial Day Trifle dessert requires no baking and can be thrown together in less than 15 minutes.

I absolutely LOVE Memorial Day! It’s a super fun, long weekend with family and friends and for many of us (especially those of us who live up north), this is the official kickoff weekend for summer. This weekend is filled with cookouts, BBQ’s, pool parties, and celebrating with lots of desserts. I think we all know by now that I am not one to slave away in the kitchen all day so I am all about these quick and easy recipes.

Trifle desserts in general are one of my top 5 favorite desserts. They are absolutely beautiful once they’re made and make a stunning centerpiece on any table or island. Oh, and not to mention that they are typically the star of the show and only take a few minutes to put together (with ZERO baking)! There are so many trifle recipes out there for every different occasion with tons of different ingredients, but today we are focusing on our RED, WHITE, and BLUE Memorial Day Trifle!

How to Make Memorial Day Trifle

  1. In a small bowl, mix together warm water, 2 tbsp sugar and 2 tbsp lemon juice. Stir until dissolved.
  2. Cut up cake into bite size pieces and add 1/3 to the bottom of your trifle dish.
  3. Brush the cake pieces with your lemon simple syrup.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, 1/2 c. sugar, and vanilla. Mix on high. Add in Cool Whip and mix on low speed for no more than 30 seconds.
  5. Add 1/3 of whipped topping mixture to trifle dish and spread even layer over cake.
  6. Add sliced strawberries.
  7. Repeat these layers (alternating fruits).
  8. Decorate the top layer with any remaining fruit.

Memorial Day Trifle

Fresh ripe berries meet light and fluffy angel food cake and whipped topping in this absolutely delicious trifle dessert!

Ingredients

  • Angel Food Cake or pound cake
  • 1 package Strawberries sliced
  • 1 package Fresh Blueberries
  • 1/2 Lemon
  • 2 Tbsp Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 16 oz Cool Whip
  • 1/4 cup Warm Water
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, mix together warm water, 2 tbsp sugar, and 1/2 squeezed lemon until sugar dissolves. Set aside
  • Cut up angel food cake into bite size pieces. Add 1/3 of the cake pieces to the bottom of a trifle dish.
  • Brush the cake pieces with your lemon simple syrup mixture.
  • In a large mixing bowl or stand mixer, combine cream cheese, ½ c. sugar, and vanilla until well incorporated. Add in 16 oz Cool Whip and mix on low for about 30 seconds.
  • Add 1/3 of the whipped topping mixture to trifle dish and spread even layer over cake.
  • Add layer of sliced strawberries.
  • Repeat those layers 3 times (alternating fruits).
  • Decorate the top with any remaining fruit and enjoy!
