Perfect Boiled Eggs
This blog post will help solve everyone’s dilemma of how to make The Perfect Boiled Eggs! Whether you need hard boiled eggs for egg salad, a soft boiled egg for a delicious bowl of Ramen, or anything in between, I’ve got you covered!
For some reason, boiling eggs is just one of those life skills that we often forget how to do if we aren’t boiling eggs on a regular basis. I always forget if I’m supposed to add the eggs to cold water or hot water.. Do I leave them to boil or immediately take them out and add to an ice bath? And (most importantly), how long do they boil for?? Well, I am going to make this SUPER EASY for you. Just keep reading!
I know I may get some push back on this next part, but don’t knock it til you try it. YOU DON’T NEED TO BOIL EGGS FROM COLD WATER! It doesn’t matter if you’re making soft boiled eggs, hard boiled eggs, or medium boiled eggs, boiling the water FIRST is the key to making perfect boiled eggs. I’ve been doing this for as long as can remember, and it is a game changer!
How to Make Perfect Boiled Eggs
Start by bringing a pot of water to boil making sure there is enough water to cover the eggs plus an inch.
Once the water is boiling, reduce the heat to low and gently place the eggs into the water (gently is key so they don’t break). Once the eggs are in, immediately turn the heat back up to continue boiling.
Set your timer according to how hard or soft you want them to turn out.
Once the timer goes off, place the eggs immediately into an ice water bath. This is an important step that will stop the eggs from continuing to cook. This will also help the eggs peel easier!
To peel, tap the eggs bottom side down to get under the membrane and continue to peel the entire egg.
How Long To Boil
6 minutes – This will create a liquid yolk and softer egg white.
7 minutes – A soft, jam-like yolk consistency. This is my favorite for adding to avocado toast or to a bowl of delicious Ramen.
8 minutes – Slightly soft yolk.
10 minutes – More on the side of a hard boiled egg, but will still have a slightly soft yolk
12 minutes – Firm yolk center. These are perfect for deviled eggs or egg salad
Storing Boiled Eggs
Boiled eggs are great for meal prepping for the week. They can be stored either in the shell or pre-peeled and ready to go. This is how long you can store them in the refrigerator:
