Shirley Temple Floats
These Shirley Temple Floats are a fun and delicious spin on everyone’s favorite summer treat… Root Beer Floats! Using just 3 ingredients, they are perfect for a get together with friends (and kids love them)!
I am always looking for fun food and drink recipes that aren’t something you’ll find often. While I do enjoy a good root beer float, these Shirley Temple Floats are right up there on the list of favorite summer drinks! These are the perfect treat for a kids birthday party or a game night with friends. As someone who has many friends who don’t drink alcohol, these fun drinks make everyone feel like they are part of the party without the pressure of drinking alcohol.
Ingredients:
Lemon-Lime Soda – you can use any lemon-lime soda for this drink recipe! I personally like Sprite the best (I’ve just always grown up drinking Sprite), but 7-Up, Ginger-Ale, etc. would work just fine!
Grenadine – this is what gives a Shirley Temple the delicious cherry flavor and red color. I used Rose’s Grenadine for this recipe, as I find it adds the perfect flavor and sweetness, but any grenadine will work.
Vanilla Ice Cream – This should be any regular, plain vanilla ice cream (just like you would use for a root beer float)!
How to Make Shirley Temple Floats?
Start by pouring 5 Tbsp. of grenadine into the bottom of a pitcher. I like to add the grenadine first so it mixes as you add the soda.
Pour in 6 cups of your favorite Lemon-Lime soda over the grenadine. I used Sprite for this recipe because that’s what I have on hand, but you can use any lemon-lime soda you’d like.
Scoop 2-3 scoops of vanilla ice cream into a glass and top with the shirley temple mixture. You will need to pour slow so it doesn’t overflow. If the foam gets to be too much, you can give it a quick stir and the foam will die down.
Optional: Top with a couple Marschino cherries and a slice of lime
